Overview

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of tuftsin, an immunomodulatory peptide naturally produced by cleavage of the IgG heavy chain. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, selank was designed with enhanced stability through the addition of a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. In preclinical and clinical research, selank has been studied for its anxiolytic effects comparable to benzodiazepines but without sedation or dependence potential. It modulates GABA-A receptor subunit expression and influences serotonin and norepinephrine metabolism in the brain.
