Compound Details
Mechanism of Action
GHK-Cu delivers bioavailable copper to cells and activates tissue remodeling pathways. It upregulates collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycan synthesis while promoting antioxidant enzyme expression (SOD, catalase). The copper moiety is essential for lysyl oxidase activity, which cross-links collagen and elastin fibers.
Overview
GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a naturally occurring copper tripeptide found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Plasma levels of GHK-Cu decline significantly with age, from approximately 200 ng/mL at age 20 to 80 ng/mL by age 60. In research, GHK-Cu has been studied extensively for its roles in tissue remodeling, collagen and elastin synthesis, and anti-inflammatory signaling. It has demonstrated the ability to activate genes involved in tissue remodeling while suppressing genes associated with tissue degradation and inflammation. GHK-Cu is also studied for its antioxidant properties and its ability to promote decorin expression, which plays a role in extracellular matrix organization and tissue integrity.
