Mechanism of Action

KPV enters cells and inhibits NF-κB activation by preventing nuclear translocation of inflammatory transcription factors. This reduces downstream production of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β, attenuating the inflammatory cascade across multiple tissue types.

Overview

KPV is one of the smallest bioactive peptides studied in inflammatory research. This tripeptide, consisting of the amino acid sequence Lys-Pro-Val, is derived from the C-terminal region of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a neuropeptide with well-documented anti-inflammatory activity. Preclinical research has demonstrated that KPV inhibits NF-κB signaling, a master regulator of the inflammatory response. Studies show it reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β. Its compact size allows efficient cellular uptake and tissue penetration compared to larger peptide sequences. KPV has been studied extensively in models of gut inflammation, including IBD and colitis, where it has shown effects on mucosal healing and inflammatory marker reduction. Additional research has explored its potential in skin inflammation and wound healing contexts, consistent with the broader anti-inflammatory profile of alpha-MSH-derived peptides. For research use only. Not intended for human consumption.

FAQ

What is the origin of KPV?
KPV is derived from the C-terminal tripeptide sequence (Lys-Pro-Val) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Despite being only three amino acids long, research suggests it retains significant anti-inflammatory activity from the parent hormone.
What inflammatory pathways has KPV been studied for?
KPV has been studied primarily for its inhibition of NF-κB signaling, which reduces production of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β. Preclinical models have examined its effects in gut inflammation, skin inflammation, and wound healing.
How should KPV be stored?
Store lyophilized KPV at -20°C for long-term or 2-8°C for short-term storage. Reconstituted peptide should be refrigerated at 2-8°C and used within 30 days. Protect from light and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
