Reconstituted for research use • Per research protocol
Compound Details
Mechanism of Action
LL-37 disrupts microbial membranes through electrostatic interaction with negatively charged phospholipids. It also activates FPRL1 receptors on immune cells, promoting chemotaxis and cytokine release. Additionally, LL-37 inhibits biofilm formation and stimulates angiogenesis and re-epithelialization in wound healing models.
Overview
LL-37 is a 37-amino acid peptide and the sole cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide found in humans. It is produced by cleavage of the precursor protein hCAP-18 (human cationic antimicrobial protein 18) and is expressed in neutrophils, macrophages, epithelial cells, and other immune cell types. In preclinical research, LL-37 has demonstrated broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses. Its mechanism involves direct membrane disruption of microbial cells as well as immunomodulatory signaling through formyl peptide receptor-like 1 (FPRL1) and other pattern recognition pathways. Beyond its antimicrobial properties, LL-37 has been studied for its role in wound healing, anti-biofilm activity, and modulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. Research interest has expanded into chronic infections, inflammatory conditions, and tissue repair applications. For research use only. Not intended for human consumption.
